Student Senate

Dave Racer leads this 15 week course in 1-1/2 segments for advanced students at Yeah Academy in Roseville, Minnesota.

Student Senators sit as a senate committee and hear testimony on an array of issues. They debate about and choose the issues they wish to study.

Based on the issues to be studied, Student Senators are assigned to committees. The committees do the hard work of research and preparation for testimony in front of the Student Senate.

Committees call expert witnesses to testify on their assigned issues.

Once testimony has been taken and committee reports made, the committees draft resolutions that are presented to the Student Senate. The Student Senate votes on these resolutions, offering and debating amendments and either voting them up or down.

Passed resolutions are signed by all those who voted "Aye" and sent to the appropriate State Senate or State House of Representatives.

During the past three years, the Student Senate has chosen to study:

The War in Iraq ~ Death Penalty ~ U.S. Troops Serving Under U.N. Command ~ The 2016 Stock Market Bust

Minority Issues ~ Welfare Issues ~ Environmentalism ~ Judicial Tyranny ~ Economic Development

Global Governance ~ Education Reform ~ Racism ~ Abortion ~ States Rights ~ Public Funding of Stadiums ~ Public School Funding ~ Unicameral vs. Bicameral Legislatures ~ Homeland Security
